Cycling from Groede

From polder dyke to coastal trail.

Four route ideas from Dorpscamping Groede: a short ride to the sea, Waterdunen and Breskens, the official Panoramaroute and a day trip with the bicycle ferry.

From Dorpscamping Groede you are almost immediately cycling between fields, creeks and old dykes. Zeeland's FIKS junction network takes you to the beach, Waterdunen, Breskens and Cadzand without having to return along the same road. Choose a route to suit your group, fitness and the wind that day.

Plan your route

Follow the junctions, not your phone

Zeeland's cycle network is called FIKS. White signs at intersections show green numbers and arrows. Simply write down your route's numbers and let the signs guide you along the way.

Open the official FIKS route planner
1

Choose distance and stop

Decide whether the beach, nature, a village or the ferry will be the main purpose of your ride.

2

Put the junctions in order

Plan the loop in FIKS and note the numbers. This makes it easy to shorten the route or add an extra loop along the way.

3

Check wind and ferry

Check the wind direction and, for a ride to Vlissingen, the current timetable and bicycle tickets shortly before departure.

Typically Zeeland

Plan the exposed dyke with a tailwind

Along parts of the FIKS network you can choose between an exposed route outside the dyke and a sheltered route behind it. The signs mark this choice. In a strong westerly wind it makes the difference between relaxed cruising and hard work.

A practical rule: ride the open coastal section with the wind behind you and save the sheltered polder roads for the return. Bring a light windproof or rain jacket even on a sunny day, as coastal weather can change quickly.

From Breskens to Walcheren

The Westerschelde Ferry runs between Breskens and Vlissingen. The crossing takes about 23 minutes and you need a bicycle ticket for your bike. Tandems, trailers and cargo bikes can also travel subject to conditions.

Both terminals have e-bike charging points and a bicycle repair kit. Timetables and availability vary by season, so check the official website on the day you travel.

How long is the Breskens–Vlissingen crossing?

The Westerschelde Ferry crossing takes about 23 minutes. Always check the current timetable before departure.

Can I hire or charge an e-bike?

E-bikes are available to hire at Het Platte Putje. Charging points can also be found along the coastal trail and at both ferry terminals; check local availability.

Are the routes signposted?
